In the International Journal of Molecular Science (IJMS), a paper on the effect of grounding mats on sleep quality is published, suggesting the possibility of helping improve sleep quality

It suggests that grounding mats may be useful as a non-pharmaceutical improvement method for people suffering from sleep disorders, boosting expectations for further research

It reduces the effects of electromagnetic waves received from external factors such as computers and smartphones, and is expected to improve deeper and more comfortable sleep and the ability to recover by the body itself through grounding

A clinical research paper on sleep improvement using the grounding mat of Dr. Friend, a premium slip & healthcare brand, has been published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (IJMS).

In January last year, Dr.Friend's grounding mat's "stress-relieving effect" was listed as the second SCI-level journal paper after it was published in the journal Biomedics, and this time, it was conducted with Kyung Hee University School of Medicine (first author, Professor Jin Sang-sook).

The International Journal of Molecular Science is an international SCI-level journal covering research in molecular biology, molecular chemistry, and life sciences, and is famous for its journals covering a variety of topics such as genetics, biochemistry, and molecular chemistry.

In particular, IJMS's paper citation index, Impact Factor, averaged 5.6 over the past five years, meaning it is highly regarded in the highly competitive molecular science field and has significant academic influence in the field.

IJMS also has the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) at 1.154. This is an indicator that reflects the quality level of the cited journal and shows how much the papers published in the journal have been cited in authoritative journals along with the impact factor.

In particular, SJR 1.154 indicates that IJMS has significant academic recognition and is widely cited in high-quality journals, and that the journal has strong academic and qualitative influence.

In this paper, Dr.Friend presented the importance of grounding technology and natural material technology accumulated for more than 30 years and new possibilities for non-drug sleep disorder treatments.

In particular, in order to accurately analyze the 'effect of grounding mats on sleep quality', it was divided into four groups: the normal control group, the 7-day ground group, the 21-day ground group, and the electrical exposure group to measure the effect on sleep quality using various methods such as arousal time, REM/non-REM sleep time, orexin and antioxidant cell count.

As a result, the 21-day grounding group was found to have reduced wakefulness time by about 15% compared to the normal control group, helping improve sleep quality. However, in the case of the electrical exposure group, wakefulness time increased by 7% compared to the normal control group, confirming that the electromagnetic effect between sleep can interfere with sleep quality.

Grounding group's REM sleep increased by 80 percent and non-REM sleep increased by 78 percent. REM sleep is a stage where people dream, and it is time to organize and balance emotionally important events. Lack of REM sleep is known to lead to increased anxiety and depression due to decreased ability to control emotions.

Non-REM sleep is a stage of sleep that plays an important role in enhancing our immunity by restoring our body, restoring muscles and tissues, replenishing energy, and secreting growth hormones. Both sleep is essential for a healthy sleep.

In addition, the grounding mat use group has been found to contribute to reducing "orexin," a neurotransmitter involved in various physiological functions such as energy balance, appetite, and addictive behavior in the brain.

Orexin is a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in promoting and maintaining arousal and can maintain concentration while staying awake during the day, but it can interfere with sleep if it is excessively secreted or activated even at night.

Through this study, it was confirmed that the 7-day exposure group of the grounding mat decreased by about 33% and the 21-day exposure group decreased by about 46%.

In addition, superoxide dismutase (SOD), also known as an antioxidant enzyme, increased by about 20% in the 21-day exposure group. SOD functions to protect cells by reducing oxidative stress during sleep and promoting the decomposition of free radicals during sleep.

The results also confirmed that grounding plays an important role in reducing oxidative stress in the body and can strengthen the antioxidant defense system in the body.

Dr.Friend Kim Yong-suk, who co-authored the paper, said, "Pharmacological treatments such as benzodiazepine and barbiturate have been mainly used to manage sleep disorders and insomnia. However, the reality is that these drugs are not easy to be the ultimate solution because they are related to potential side effects such as dependence, cognitive impairment, and residual sedation effects during the day," adding, "To reduce this risk, research on non-pharmacological interventions is continuously being conducted around the world, and grounding slip can be a great alternative with few side effects, and I hope this study will be a valuable cornerstone that opens the new paradigm."

Dr.Friend will continue to strive to improve preventive health through proper sleep based on its sleep and healthcare technology for more than 30 years.

Through this, we plan to expand into a scientific healthcare solution brand where people can experience positive factors in the body on a daily basis, such as improving cognitive function and restoring the function of endocrine and immune systems through healthy and proper sleep.
